Shaikh Daij was awarded the “Personality of the Year” by the Seatrade Middle East & Indian Subcontinent in 2010. He received a B.S.B.A. International Business at The American University Washington D.C., U.S.A. in 1991 and in 1999 Shaikh Daij completed a leadership management Program (Gulf Executive Program) from the University of Virginia, Darden School, U.S.A.
Mr. Al Naki was commissioned from both The Military Academy and The Royal School of Military Engineering in the United Kingdom.
During his military career, he was a member of staff in Kuwait Military Academy and second-in-command of Kuwait Army Engineers.
He is an advocate of renewable energy and a life member of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) since 1983.
Mr. Al Naki was awarded the President’s Medal, Lion of Republic of Finland, from the President Martti Ahtisaari in 1996.
He was honored as Senior Citizenship of the Republic of Turkey from the President Tayyip Erdogan in 2010.
Al Baqali has been a part of the Alba family for more than two decades and brings years of leadership and honed experience from within the Company. Al Baqali joined Alba as a Purchasing Officer back in 1998 and was appointed as the Manager for Procurement in 2010.
In 2013, Al Baqali became part of Alba’s Executive fold with his appointment as the Chief Financial Officer moving further up the ranks to become Deputy CEO and Chief Supply Chain Officer in 2017. In his Executive Management roles, Al Baqali has been instrumental in the fast-paced progress of Alba’s landmark Line 6 Expansion Project, especially in securing the US billion financing for the Project and formulating sourcing strategies for key raw materials.
As a Bahraini who grew from within Alba, Al Baqali believes that Alba’s growth and success depend heavily on the Company’s entrenched principles on Safety, Development of Human Capital, Social and Civic Responsibility as well as Community Development.
Al Baqali is a professional member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS), UK; Board member of the International Aluminum Institute (IAI), INJAZ and is on the Board of Tenmou, the first Bahraini Business Angels Company. Ali holds a B.Sc. degree in Accounting from the University of Bahrain and an MBA from the French Arabian Business School – ESSEC.
He was promoted gradually and contributed with his experience and leadership in line with Egyptalum’s strategic view of increasing the productivity through the transformation of existing lines – Soderberg cells – ( pot lines no 1 to 6 ) to prebaked cells which increased the annual production capacity to 320000 tons by the end of 2010. Due to his experiences and goodwill ,which came from both his managerial tasks and many training courses , He was a signed to be Egyptalum Chairman and CEO in August 2019 – He uses this new position to maintain the profitability and customers satisfactions level of Egyptalum.
Dr. Al Zarouni has over 26 years of experience having joined DUBAL in 1991 as a graduate trainee in the potrooms. He served in progressively more senior roles before becoming Vice President: Smelter Operations in 2008, making him a member of DUBAL’s executive management team.
During his career Dr. Al Zarouni has been involved in all of DUBAL’s major expansion projects.
He conceptualised and implemented amperage creep projects that enabled DUBAL to increase its hot metal production by 15% to 30% across different technologies with minimal investment.
He assumed responsibility for DUBAL’s Technology Development & Transfer department in 2011 and launched the development of DUBAL’s in-house high-amperage DX and DX+ reduction cell technologies. He also played a lead role in the development of the next generation DX+ Ultra reduction cell technology.
Dr. Al Zarouni holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of New South Wales, a Master’s degree in Quality Management from the University of Wollongong and a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Arizona. He has published a number of technical papers in industry journals and regularly delivers presentations at various conferences. He has also completed a Programme for Executive Development at IMD, Switzerland.
The Ma’aden Aluminium Company, “Smelter” started production in Y2012, followed shortly therefore “Bauxite mine” and “Aluminum Refinery” impended in 2014. Ma’aden Aluminium Company is a joint venture between the Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Ma’aden) and Alcoa. One of the most efficient integrated aluminium complex in the world. MA’s facilities consist of a bauxite mine at Al Ba’itha in Qassim province in the center of the kingdom, which connects by railway to alumina refinery, aluminium smelter, can sheet rolling mill and automotive mill at Ras Al Khair, 90 km north of Jubail in the Eastern Province.
Ali S. Al Qahtani joined Ma’aden in February 2008 for Aluminium project, in 2009 took the position of Deputy Project Director, in November 2015 he was appointed as Smelter Operations Directorresponsible for the Ras Al Khair Aluminium Smelter and the same year promoted as Vice President for Smelter. Ali S. Al Qahtani is the board member of Ma’aden associates JV Company.
Ali S. Al Qahtani holds Bachelor’s Degree in the Science of Chemical Engineering and Master Degree in Business Administration from KFUPM, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.
Al Masoudi started his career in 1991 as Assistant Researcher at the Directorate of Natural and Industrial Resources Planning where he grew in his career to become Director of Natural Resources and Energy Sectors Development at the Ministry of National Economy. In 2005, he joined Oman Oil Company as Director of Business Development and he was later promoted to Chief Business Development (Energy, Electricity and Shipping Infrastructure). He was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Sohar Aluminium in 2013 and in this capacity continues to lead the company to achieve significant milestones. Said’s strengths lie in his business acumen marked by the significant results attained by the business under his leadership.
Dr. Abdulla holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Aluminium Smelting from University of New South Wales, Australia. He also holds an MBA from ESSEC/French Arabian School.
Dr. Abdulla is a member of many international committees related to Aluminium Industry like The Material Society (TMS) and has been an advisor to the Engineering College of Bahrain University.
During his private time, reading is his favourite hobby.
Amin played instrumental roles in Alba’s organization restructuring process in 2010, implementation of Lean & Six Sigma tools during STAR project 2011/2012 and finally cost saving Titan project.
Before joining Alba, he spent 5 years at the leading Japanese control and instrumentation firm, Yokogawa, wherein his role covered engineering, maintenance and projects experiences in vast industries such power & utilities, refineries, and petrochemicals.
Amin holds M.Sc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Bahrain and an MBA from ESSEC Business School. He has also attended various Executive Management Programs at the University of Chicago Business School and University of Cranfield School of Management.
Outside of work, Amin Sultan enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf and reading.
Prior to his current role, Waleed was the Director of Administration, and before that he was the Senior Manager of Strategic Supply & Planning, charged with controlling the company’s procurement requirement of all major raw material and corresponding logistics. Moreover, Waleed was responsible for the management and development of Alba’s raw material and freight suppliers’ network in addition to managing all trading & selling initiatives for excess procured Alumina and surplus production of Calcined Petroleum Coke.
In 2013, Waleed served as Operational Excellence Manager where he led the operational excellence initiatives alongside the continuous improvement strategy and roadmap. Moreover, Waleed was responsible for the development, establishment and initiation of an Enterprise Continuous Improvement and Cost Cutting Programme (Titan Programme), based on the Lean-Six Sigma methodology. The developed Programme is a company-wide philosophy aimed at improving quality, reducing lead time and bringing in sizable cost reduction levels.
Prior to his roles with Alba, he was General Manager of Business Improvement Group at Rezayat Group of Companies in Khobar, Saudi Arabia where he led a strategy building initiative at Rezayat Group, resulting ultimately in the establishment and direct utilization of Balance Score Cards. He also led the development, establishment and initiation of an Enterprise Excellence Program. The developed system was called Rezayat Achieving Competitive Excellence (RACE) and is a mix of the Six Sigma philosophy, the Lean Manufacturing methodology and Continuous Improvement principles.
Waleed holds an Executive MBA from the French Arabian Business School / ESSEC in addition to a BS and MS degrees in Industrial Engineering from Wichita State University in the USA. He is also a Certified Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing Master Black Belt. Waleed has served for 20 years in different capacities for a number of companies in the USA and in the Middle East ranging from an Implementation Consultant in a software start-up company in San Jose, California to a Six Sigma Black Belt in a world-class Aircraft Manufacturer (Lear-Jet, Bombardier).
In his free time, Waleed enjoys reading and spending time with family and friends.
Agnello has more than 30 years of experience working in large global companies in the metallurgical and mining sector while holding leadership positions including Vice President and Director in complex industrial facilities that included some of the largest producers of primary Aluminium in the world. These include Alcoa, Ma’aden, BHP Billiton, Murabeni, Chinalco and Rio Tinto.
At Sohar Aluminium, Agnello is the custodian of the Productivity and Incremental Improvements Business focus area overseeing the development of their strategies and contributing in driving the overall strategy of the Company. He leads the Reduction Operations, Services and Maintenance, Technical Department, Anode Plant, Casthouse, Port and Lab departments.
Agnello has an MBA from IBMEC Business School for Executive Education in Sao Paulo, and a bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Metallurgy and Mines in Minas Gerais state in Brazil.
In his current role, Khalid leads the Company’s global marketing strategies to drive innovation across its business divisions, depending on the deep knowledge he has in both marketing and operations fields. He continuously stimulates Alba’s existing business and develop new markets to meet the Company’s growth targets.
Khalid joined Alba as an apprentice in 1989 and worked in various operational areas including Power Station, Reduction Lines and Carbon Plant. He rose through the ranks and was promoted to Supervisor followed by Superintendent. Prior to his current executive role, in 2012, he was promoted to Manager of Engineering and then to Alba’s Marketing Manager for Customer Services & Marketing Operations.
An MBA from the French Arabian Business School/ESSEC (Bahrain), he holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Gulf University in Bahrain as well as a Diploma in Mechatronics from Abertay University, Dundee, UK. He also possesses a completion certificate for the Executive Education Programme in Strategic Sales Management from the University of Chicago, USA.
Mr. Al Habtari has a degree in Chemical Engineering from The University of Tulsa and a MBA from the American University of Sharjah.
Patrick holds a Bachelor of Engineering, Electrical and Electronics (Hons) from the University of Queensland.
Harith Began his carrier in 1995 working with Saudi Aramco as Chemical Engineer PDP at Safanyia area and was responsible to provide Engineering support to on/off shore plants. In 1998 Joined IBN Sina, One of SABIC affiliate as Production Supervisor, and mainly responsible for MTBE, Methanol plant operation.
In 2002 Harith joined Saudi Aramco Shell Refinery (SASREF), as Plant Superintendents. Following successive promotions and working in various operating departments in the refinery including successful projects completion as project managers. In 2009 and after enrich operation, maintenance and project experiences, Harith Move into new challenge to lead the process safety and EHS department in SASREF. Harith experience has extended to work as process safety consultant at Shell petrochemical plant (Shell Chemicals Seraya) in Singapore in assignment basis for 2 years. On return to Sasref Harith had lead Process safety implementation project and was successfully completed.
In 2014 Harith Joined Maaden, Aluminum company as an EHS Manger in Rolling Mill, cast house, Bauxite Refinery plant main role was to establish and implement Maaden EHS Managements system with compliance assurance and provide full support and advice to the individual business units. Harith had lead the Bauxite Refinery EHS team to achieve attaining Major international certificates such as ISO 45001, RC14001, and ISO14001. Recently Harith has move to Maaden aluminum central Health and safety Department for all Maaden Aluminum, providing advice and support to all Maaden aluminum business units.
Harith has graduated from King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with Bachelor degree in chemical Engineering.
Previously, Aba led the GE Oil & Gas MENAT regional engineering team from 2010 till 2013.
Before joining O&G, he spent 10 years at GE Global Research in Niskayuna where he had several roles as a senior mechanical engineer and project manager in the Structural Mechanicals and Dynamics Lab in Niskayuna, New York.
Aba has worked on a variety of technologies in medical systems, wind turbines, aviation, oil & gas, and power systems. His work concentrated on dynamics & vibration, design, and motion control of mechanical systems and he has filed for 28 US patents in various fields of technology.
Aba received his Master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Colorado State University in 1996 and a PhD from Cornell University in 2001.
John started his career with Rolls-Royce while concurrently studying mechanical engineering at Salford University in Manchester, England. After graduating with a first class honors degree in mechanical engineering, he worked in aeroderivative gas turbine design with Rolls-Royce.
In 1985, John joined GE Aircraft Engines working in a number of technical and managerial roles in design and systems engineering making significant contributions to the GE90 and other GE engines. In 1999, he took leadership of Product Support Engineering for the CF6 and GE90 fleets working with customers and regulatory agencies. John’s last role with GE’s aircraft engine business was leading the engineering team responsible for rotating parts in GE’s engines.
In early 2007, John was promoted to general manager and chief engineer of GE Energy in Greenville, SC. In this role he had engineering oversight for all of GE’s power generation equipment including: heavy-duty gas turbine, steam, solar, wind, nuclear, aeroderivative, and gas reciprocating engines. The following year he was promoted to general manager of Thermal Systems and Gas Turbine Engineering. In 2010, John became a GE Officer and was named vice president of engineering at GE Oil & Gas (O&G), located in Florence, Italy. In this role, he led engineering teams covering oil and gas equipment and systems—from subsea to pipeline compression—and worked on the acquisition and integration of several additions to GE’s O&G portfolio.
John currently lives in Greenville, SC.
Peter has more than 25 years of global commodity marketing experience. Before joining South32, he worked in various roles in BHP, starting in The Hague in 2008 as Vice President Marketing Aluminium. He then led the consolidation of the Aluminium and Stainless Steel Materials Marketing teams in August
2012. In 2013, he was appointed South32 Vice President Marketing Aluminium, Manganese & Nickel, where he was based out of Singapore.
In his career, Peter has worked in various marketing roles in Japan, Australia, Russia, Cyprus and Switzerland, including for Rio Tinto and Rusal.
Peter completed degrees in Commerce and Law at the University of Queensland.
He started as a Special Project Engineer at Midal Cables in 2010 focusing on setting up new manufacturing units outside Bahrain including Midal Kablo in Bozuyuk, Turkey; Midal Cables International Matola, Mozambique and Midal Cables Saudi in Dammam in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
In 2013, he became Assistant to Managing Director in Midal Cables and was appointed to overlook international projects and ventures.
Rashid graduated from Boston University with a bachelor’s degree in Economics.
He is currently a PhD candidate in Industrial Engineering at Purdue University. His research focus is additive manufacturing and the aerospace supply chain. Bill holds a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University, an MBA and MPA from Cornell University. He holds a Green Belt in Six Sigma, and is a licensed private pilot.
Mike joined Innoval Technology in January 2018 as a Senior Consultant and Materials Development Group Leader. This was something of a homecoming for Mike after starting his career at the Alcan Research & Development Centre in Banbury. He transferred to British Aluminium – today known as Luxfer Group – advancing through various Technical and R&D roles before being invited to take up the position of VP of Technology & Innovation at Luxfer USA. He returned to Luxfer Europe in 2013 as Director of Innovation, working in partnership with key customers to develop and commercialise new products in Industrial, Healthcare and Environmental Technology markets. During his time in senior leadership team positions in manufacturing business units in the US and Europe, Mike has gained specific expertise in strategic planning, technology road mapping and innovation management. He is a strong advocate of collaboration, utilising strategic alliances and open innovation to drive the development and commercialisation of new technologies. Mike is a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) and is Chair of their Technology Communities Board, having chaired the Light Metals Division since 2013. Over the years he has built up an influential network of global contacts and holds advisory board positions at several universities in the UK and US.
As Innoval’s Materials Development Group Leader, Mike has responsibility for overseeing the company’s collaborative R&D projects as well as development work with existing clients. He also takes an active role in creating new business. Mike has recently led the Innoval team through an activity to develop a 5-year strategic plan for business growth and looks forward to many exciting opportunities ahead.

Previously to joining Wood Mackenzie, Edgardo worked for an aluminium producer in Argentina and for two major research and consulting organisations in London. He has a degree in Economics from University of Buenos Aires.

Alan’s experience covers 30 years of designing, selling, managing & executing complex capital plant projects (from smaller $200k value projects right through to very large $300million turnkey projects) in the metals industry all over the world.
Since 1987 he has been responsible for selling over US$700million in value of plant & equipment projects to the global metallurgical industry. He was formerly responsible for the EMP Technologies business which he sold in 2001 to Metaullics & then again in 2005 to Pyrotek Group
Alan is now Managing Director of the ALTEK group, that specialises in technical innovation & solutions for the aluminium cast house & aluminium recycling operations within the aluminium industry, operating from bases in both the UK & USA. ALTEK was recently acquired by Harsco and Alan sits on the Metals and Mineral Executive Management team.
He holds several patents & is a leading authority on the use of electromagnetic stirring technology within aluminium cast houses & is a regular presenter of technical papers at many international aluminium conferences around the world each year
